About the South March BESS

A 250 MW lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery energy storage system (BESS) is planned for South March, with completion expected by 2027. The project will provide several benefits to the community, including grants for local organizations, job opportunities for residents, and reduced energy costs.
Project Overview
The proposed project is in the development stage. This requires submitting applications and studies to the City of Ottawa and other bodies to ensure the project is built safely and sustainably. The work consists of installing battery modules, some additional power equipment, and safety and security infrastructure.
Adds up to 250 MW of capacity and 1,000 MWh of energy storage
Interconnects with the existing electricity system using the nearby 230 kV circuit
