Fire Safety & Emergency Planning

Safety First in Energy Storage
We prioritize safety in our battery energy storage systems (BESS). Our facilities are equipped with advanced detection systems, real-time temperature monitoring, and specialized fire-suppression technology to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient energy storage.
Safety is our top priority when selecting our battery technology, and the vendor we carefully selected has over 77,000 MWh of deployed BESS around the world with no thermal incidents.
Fire Safety
In consultation with Ottawa Fire Services, we’ve added additional hydrants, increased water tank capacity, and included a remote shut-off valve.
Additional Water Hydrants
13 hydrants on-site
Water Tank Capacity
85,000 litres
Remote Shut-Off Valve
to contain water run-off
Safety Training
Our team has hosted several in-person training sessions to ensure the Emergency Response Plans are tailored to the design of the site.
BESS Fire Safety Workshop
Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2025 | Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m
In-person BESS Fire Safety Workshop with Energy Safety Response Group (ESRG)
Date: Thursday, October 10, 2024 | Time: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m

Along with trainings, firefighters and safety professionals from the Emergency Safety Response Group have been in the community engaging with residents at the Open House and Town Hall, informing them of the high safety level of these systems and the safe, proven methods used to mitigate risk.
Fire-fighting Best Practices
Monitor and let it self-extinguish
Maintain safe distances
Cool down adjacent vegetation if needed
Our team continues to listen to the community and to feedback from Ottawa Fire Services to ensure the emergency response plan remains tailored to the site's design.
In response to community feedback, we’ve added containment and a shut-off valve to ensure any runoff is contained on-site, with no impact on residents or the environment.
