FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 11, 2025

Ottawa, ON – Following Ottawa City Council’s approval of the Municipal Support Resolution (MSR) on June 11, Brookfield Renewable is moving forward with the next critical step in developing its clean energy initiative. The company is submitting formal applications for both Site Plan Control (SPC) and a Zoning By-law Amendment (ZBA)with the City of Ottawa for the South March BESS project.
These submissions will allow City staff to conduct a full technical review of the detailed studies and reports prepared for the project. This includes assessments covering land use, environmental impact, engineering, and public safety, all of which are developed to ensure compliance with municipal standards and provincial regulations.
"As we enter this next phase, we want to express our appreciation to City Council for supporting the MSR, which has provided the foundation for this formal review process," said company representative, Mark Whelan, "We also thank City staff for their ongoing guidance and collaboration throughout this project."
Once deemed complete, technical studies and plans will be made publicly available in accordance with the City of Ottawa’s planning process. This transparency is an important part of our commitment to community engagement and responsiveness.
We look forward to continue working constructively with City officials and the local community to advance a project that supports Ottawa’s climate and electrification goals.
